If you are unable to pay for legal services yourself, you may be eligible for Legal Aid funding. This means you do not need to pay anything for legal services. However the services provided will be limited to the funding received from Legal Aid. You will be kept up to date with funding applications and their success.
Your lawyer can make the application for Legal Aid funding on your behalf. You will be required to provide information for the application, including personal details and details of your financial circumstances. It is your responsibility to provide accurate information.
To continue to be eligible for funding you are required to remain in contact with your lawyer, and update your lawyer if you have a change in circumstances. You are also required to follow the reasonable legal advice provided to you.
In some circumstances the Court may order you to undertake programs, obtain reports, attend services or pay costs in your matter. Some of these events may incur expenses which will not be covered by Legal Aid funding. Any costs related to these matters will be paid by you directly to the service provider not to our office. Any costs orders made against you by the Court remain your sole responsibility.
